  1. Morena Room 7,
This is Room 7 from St. Patrick's School in Auckland. We really enjoyed reading your explanation of what an Enviro school is. We are also working towards being an Enviro school where we won't have any rubbish on our school ground. Do you have any suggestions for how we can encourage students to be responsible and look after our environment?

  2. Kia ora,

Our senior students run committees. These committees are responsible for different areas of the school. We have a Environment committee that work with our enviro-schools coordinator and teachers to come up with meaningful initiatives to reduce our impact on the planet. We now have a pig/chicken crap bin that has meant that our organic waste is almost zero. This stops our bins from smelling like decomposing foods.

Most of the store-bought fruit has stickers attached and we have a big sticker chart that the kids put the stickers on. This helps to encourage them to keep the stickers out of the pig bin and to stop them dropping them on the ground.

If the kids come up with the ideas themselves, they will be more likely to follow through and get onboard.

It is great to hear you are keen to become a bit more sustainable, also.

    Ka mau te wehi!

  3. Ki ora,
my name is Angelina and I am from Saint Patrick's School. I like how you included a Google slide on what an enviroschool is. How can we keep our communities clean and not just our schools?

    1. Hello, I like your question. I will give you a short answer and you can decide on whether I have answered it properly. If I have not answered your question, please ask another to clarify.

I think that if we teach students to care for their environment, they will grow up and teach their kids and the communities will clean themselves. Imagine living in a world where there was no dump because there was no waste. That is a world I want to live in...
