Wairere

Ko te tangi o te wai,
E taka ana ki runga i te papa,
Ka rongohia.

Pakū ana ki waho ra
Te Kōrori me te haruru;
Rere wātea ana,
Ka kitea.

The cry of water,
As it pounds the surface below,
Is heard.

It gushes forth
With a rumble and a stir;
Flowing freely,
It is seen.

Term 3 Reflection

Term 3 has been huge! It has been fast paced and there have been many highlights. I was incredibly impressed with the speeches that the students in Room 7 created. Many of them have the power to inspire, engage and entertain. I was proud to see so many of them sharing their speeches with their peers and whānau.

Calendar art is looking amazing. If you have an opportunity to view them, make sure you give your self plenty of time. There are some truly excellent pieces of individual creativity amongst them.

I have finally got back to a similar level of fitness from term 1. I am enjoying running again and I have set a new goal of doing our 2.8km morning run, in 10minutes or less. My current PB is 10.06 and my average is north of 12minutes. It will be done by the end of Term 4.

Have a fantastic break.

Cheers,

Mr McAulay

Term 2 Reflection

Kia ora,

Term 2 reflection. A difficult topic to start - similar to the term I have just had. It is not often that you spend more days away from school, than at school. I have never been this sick. As a teenager I had very few illnesses and apart from a nasty virus in France in 2001, I would have called myself fairly healthy.

The hardest part of the past 10 weeks has been the loss of my shoes. I haven't actually lost them, I have just lost the ability to wear them. You may have seen me flopping around in socks and sandals. This has left me unable to run, join in any class games, walk my dog, explore the hills, go hunting, take my son for walks in the pram or play canoe polo. Canoe polo cost me $60 per game this season. That is pretty expensive.

I hope that a surgeon can get me back in my shoes and my kayak asap (preferably yesterday).

I have been so impressed with my classes resilience this term. I know that it was challenging for them not having a consistent teacher, for the first 6 weeks of term. Thank you to all those wonderful students that kept their programmes of learning running. It was great to see all the wonderful writing and maths DLOs through their blogs.

A highlight of the term for me was Boomwriter. This has proven to be an engaging success. It has been wonderful to see the increased pride that is evident in each piece of writing.

Enjoy your holidays. Please be nice to your siblings (except the really annoying ones).

Cheers,

Mr McAulay

Cross Country Reflection 2017

Hi this is Ella and i'm writing a reflection on the 2017 cross country.
I was a marshal for it and it was kinda fun but a bit boring at the same time TBC...

Cross Country 2017 - Quick Reflection

Kia ora,

I am so impressed with all of the students from Paroa School. Those students in Room 7 and 8 that were given the responsibility of marshalling, all stepped up and helped the younger runners have a great time. You all showed how caring you are, by supporting all the runners. Seeing 12-year-old kids guiding the 5-year-olds around the course was inspirational.

A highlight for me was seeing a runner that always has some spare energy at the end of our daily runs, collapse at the end, panting and gasping for breathe. They knew that they had given their absolute best.

Thank you to all those parents, children, teachers and others that helped make the event possible.

Cheers,

Mr McAulay

Karakia For Gathering Harakeke

KARAKIA FOR GATHERING HARAKEKE

Hutia te rito
o te harakeke
Kei whea, te kāmako e kō?
Kī mai ki ahau
He aha te mea nui
o tēnei ao
Māku e kī atu
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
When the heart is torn
from the flax bush
where will the Bell bird sing?
You ask me
what is the greatest thing
on Earth
My reply is
it is people people people.
Te harakeke
Te korari
Nga taonga whakarere iho
O te rangi
O te whenua
O nga tupuna
Homai he oranga mo matou
Tihei mauri ora

The Flax
The flax flower
treasures left down here
of the sky
of the land
of the ancestors
give wellness for us
tis the sneeze of life

Can somebody please help me?

Natasha has posted a very difficult gadget this week and I am stumped! If anybody could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. It looks like a sewing/craft tool but I am struggling to find the 'most correct' answer.

Welcome to 2017!

Kia ora,

Welcome to 2017! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and New Year's break. I have been busy concreting my driveway and am very happy to finally have it finished! The weather was trying to wreck my fun. I even managed to sneak out for a quick skateboard, between showers!
Thank you for taking the time to view my blog.

Cheers,

Mr McAulay
